Google My Business Temporarily Removes Features Due to COVID-19

Some limitations are caused by the COVID-19 situation and due to this some features of Google My Business are temporarily removed by Google.

“During the unprecedented COVID-19 situation, we are taking steps to protect the health of our team members and reduce the need for people to come into our offices. As a result, there may be some temporary limitations and delays in support as we prioritize critical services.”

For the time being, these features will be temporarily limited or removed.

Reviews & Q&A

Already published reviews, replies, and Q&A  will all be visible to you. But Google My Business is not going to publish any new reviews, replies, or new Q&A until further information.

Presumably, if there are any new reviews, replies, and questions submitted by users then Google will publish them when it has the resource to do so.

In a statement to Search Engine Journal Bill Hartzer, a Local marketing expert gave his thought regarding the decision to restrict these features :

“Most likely, Google is doing this because they want to make sure that the information provided is valid and from trusted sources. I can only imagine how quickly the Q&A could potentially get out of hand if they allowed anyone to answer questions.”

New Claims, Listings, and Verifications

At this point in time, the Google My Business support team is now prioritizing new claims, listings, and verification for critical health-related businesses.

This means Google is now prioritizing critical services, so the publication of new claims, listings, and verifications of other businesses will be delayed.

some features of Google My Business are temporarily removed by Google.

Business Information Edits

Google’s prioritization of critical services will also extend to reviewing business information edits.

This includes reviews for:

Changes to open and closed states

Special hours

Temporary closures

Business descriptions

Business attributes

If your business does not provide an important, health-related service, it may be some time before you see any edits live on your GMB list.

Google Posts Not Affected

If you have any new updates on your business and you want to share it with your customers. Then you can still share your updates by using your GMB listing to publish the post. because till now Google is not restricting the functionality of Google Post.

That may change as time goes on, however, as these are unpredictable times we’re living through. Take advantage of Google Posts while it’s still available.
